purchasing a 1975 300d...need more info on these cars

anything i need to look for in these cars? last mercedes i purchased was a 1978 240d that i bought in feb. 2006 and it lasted me until aug. 2008 when the tranny went out.
i think i might convert it to WVO (maybe...not sure yet) but its gonna be my daily driver. so anything i need to know going in? is there anything that these cars are known for (good or bad) that i should know. do they get good gas mileage?
