72 280SE 4.5 Sleeping for 20+ Years. Needs a resurrection!
My neighbor has a '72 280SE 4.5 in Silver/Grey (180) and Red Leather Interior (242). It was purchased by them in '79 and was used in the 80's off and on as a very occasional driver until 1989, when one day, the car started up but would not move. They suspected it was a frozen wheel bearing from the car sitting so much.
Having a 3-car garage, they never attended to it and the car has been sitting in that same place ever since. The body is in good condition without any rust and the interior just needs a good cleaning.
They put it on CraigsList and the only offer they had was for 500 bucks for someone to tow it away. This seems like a real shame.. especially to me as this was the FIRST Mercedes I ever rode in. I can't afford to take on another older car (I have an 87 560SL) but was wondering if you think it would be worth it to have it towed to a Benz shop, have the fluids flushed, frozen bearings replaced and turn around and sell it? Think it could bring a profit?
I really would like to save it from being pulled apart. Thanks for your advice.
