Fixing AC - Dryer to Evaporator Hose Question
I have a 76 240D W115 everything is running exceptionally on it except the AC. I gave the entire system a once over replaced a fuse charged the unit with freon two days ago and it fired right up blowing cold air. Thought all my woes were over till today. Got on my way to work this morning tried the air and unfortunately its blowing hot air. Luckily a good friend is a mechanic who completely drained the system, hooked it up to nitrogen (I think), pressurized the system and we started checking for leaks with soapy water. As far as we can tell we have found the one spot it is leaking unfortunately as far as I can tell its in the worst possible spot. I am hoping that I am wrong but need some assistance/advice. My friend is not going to help me fix it he was just helping me troubleshoot where the problem is.
The leak is coming from the hose that attaches the dryer to the evaporator (goes through the firewall). I am a novice for sure but I have no problem following directions, googling, and researching. Is this a project that I am going to be able to take care of alone? There is a personal locally that the mechanic said as long as I can get it off the car he will repair or replace it no problem on the spot.
I honestly have not gotten too deep into this one but as far as I can tell I think I have to remove the entire dashboard to get to where the host comes into the car and attaches to the evaporator. Is this correct? Anyone done this replacement and able to offer any advice/suggestions? Once I get this one resolved this will be come my everyday car and I am so excited about it!
Thanks ahead of time for any time/assistance you can offer!
