Voltage Regulator

I'm replacing the alternator on my 72 280se and I need to know where the voltage regulator is located. Any help would be appreciated. And a picture would be even better.

Thanks

It's part of the alternator. When you buy a new one, it comes as a packaged deal.

I did not think they were part of the alternator until a few years later. On my '73 w115 they are separate. But it's easy to tell - the voltage regulator (if it is separate) is on the right fender, it is a small metal box and has a 3 wire connector on the bottom with rectangular pins on it. While the alternator has a connector with 3 round pins on it. The combined alternator / voltage regulator has the 3 rectangular pins on it.

On the combined unit the voltage regulator and the brushes are one small unit. If it is failing 80% of the time all it needs is the new brushes / voltage regulator unit (you don't even remove the alternator to replace it).

Good Luck,

Frank
