For anyone who is interested, it appears that the difference between a left motor mount and a right one on a w108 is that the angle of the metal protruding from the top of the rubber where the big bolt screws in is different. I determined this from looking at the collapsed old mounts that I removed, as Iwas never able to find a left mount that was actually different from the right one. On the right side mount it's angled off-center. This is the asymmetry that made me suspect there was a difference in the first place. The left side mount has the metal oriented in a symmetrical way, rather than being a mirror image, like the transmission mount, but larger. The difference is immaterial.
I never was able to tell if the left side mounts listed all over the Internet are materially different, but I doubt it. Phil from Fastlane at Peach Parts said one part fits both left and right. I also called the classic center for guidance and they told me the kit they sell, which contains both mounts and hardware, has two mounts that can't be differentiated by eye and have the same part number stamped into them.
My advice is to buy two of the right mounts, since they are cheaper. That's what I did and it worked out great.
