I have just acquired a '71 250C, so your post caught my eye. As the /8 250Cs are all the same body, I would imagine that "after" may refer to sedans vs coupes, and that you would require the same hose for any of the coupes, regardless of vin. You can measure the length of what's on yours and compare to the "after."
But if you're really concerned about a match, a suggestion. I (as I'm a ruthless consumer) went to a hydraulic hose shop and had a new hose built for the hydraulic level suspension on my '82 300TDT. Same fittings, higher pressure line rating (they make hoses for forklifts and such!) and about a third what the MB dealer wanted for the replacement. Just pull your brake line and take it in. Tell them to make a duplicate. Easy! And being a local mom n' pop, they'll dig your d.y.i!
