The r-c107-sl-slc forum might be able to better help you. I too would like a new red one for my 1973. Mine has two visible cracks on the sides around were the shifter panel ends, but more importantly, the plastic part that screws into the car frame under the radio was mutilated. It looks OK from the outside, but I know the radio support problem it has which bothers me most.

There are many for sale on ebay, but I have yet to find a reasonably priced red one.

The 560sl version will fit, but the basin behind the shifter plate is deeper, or just has higher edges. I think I've seen one in that style for sale, but passed on it. I think the 560sl red is darker too, perhaps changed around 1979 or so.

Whenever I see these at junkyards the color fading so severe that it would have to be re-colored anyway. Is it possible to find good original ones with good original red color? Or is it more realistic to dye one....?

Bud's Benz now recovers R107 dashboards with the original MB tex material. They have the early and late pattern. They also redo consoles. I can speak highly about them, as they have restored friends cars and the work is lovely. Here is the contact information:

You can also consider Adsit Co. they are right near Muncie, probably not for this item but for future needs. Ps: Former Hoosier here!
