1979 300 td: Starter..

Other than when it is NOT WORKING, are there any signs that it might be time to consider replacing the starter on this car.
As of right now, after an issue where turning the key led to no activity whatsoever, the starter seems excellent. My mechanic mentioned it has a "defective solenoid" but is it even possible to make that leap of faith? There were some loose wires (thank you Benz World for pointing out how easily loose wires can cause a landslide of issues), but after tightening them everything has been great.

Thanks again for any and all help. I didnt think I'd enjoy this car as much as I have!!!

It's about time for the glow plug relay to go. May want to have a spare handy.
