Question W108

I have just acquired a W108 and I intend to restore it.
The body and engine are in very good condition. She had a new coat of paint sometime ago and unfortunately the identification plate has disappeared. All I have is the chassis no. 10801820051562. I dont know where to look for the VIN.
I will appreciate it very much if someone can assist me to get more info about this car.
Thanks in advance.

I think you found the VIN. 10801820051562 is a valid VIN for a car. The place you can confirm it is on the passenger side of the engine compartment above the wheel. It will be stamped into the metal. Clean it off and you should be able to find the VIN there.

Currently: 1967 250 SL, 1963 220Sb, 1965 300SE Lang, 1971 280SE parts car, 1972 Alfa GTV, 1965 Alfa Duetto, 1993 BMW R100R

The said VIN plate Scott mentioned should look like this: (sample only)

Taking the chance, your 108 is a 1967-1972 280se.

No, that's not the VIN plate that I mean. That is the VIN plate that is commonly inside the driver's door on the B pillar on US cars. What I am talking about is a location under the hood on the passenger side where the VIN is also stamped into the metal in the engine bay. Above the spare tire. The numbers are I think about 1/2" tall and stretch out maybe 5 or 10 inches.

Currently: 1967 250 SL, 1963 220Sb, 1965 300SE Lang, 1971 280SE parts car, 1972 Alfa GTV, 1965 Alfa Duetto, 1993 BMW R100R
