Climate control removal for repair "HELP"

I am trying to remove my climate control assy. on my 1968 MB 300 SEL. I have all cables removed except the ones on the bottom side of the unit that appear to be tightened with a knurled screw stud but the cable that passes through it also turns when I try to loosen. What am i not seeing or doing wrong here ? I already broke one cable that may be to short now for full travel.
I can take digital pic's if needed

Are you on the Mercedes EPC, the diagrams provided may help you figure it out if no one else has experience here. Free for residents of North America, the credit card is just to verify residence but MB will not charge you.

EPC-net Online

It stands for Electronic Parts Catalog. It's a portal provided by MBUSA to allow us access to every part, part number, and even to order parts via the system. You need to be on a PC to access, Mac isn't supported.

If you can take photos as offered that will be useful, I can compare to my car if it's the same tho I have not done any work on that system.

Also, please finish completing your "User CP" from the menu at the top with your location at least because that will help others who respond, for example in this case NA residents get free access to the EPC so I could tailor my answer to you, but if you're in Europe there may be other options.

PS: Welcome to BenzWorld!
