Hi, what would be the value of a very clean 1976 300D with 150,000 miles on it? The reason I am asking is that I have found one that I am considering buying. Usually I just check what a car goes for on ebay and then add a bit to that to figure a fair deal for buying a car in my area, but I have not found any of those going on ebay lately. The seller is asking 4,500 which to me seems reasonable considering that the 300D in that body style is hard to find and I really like the w115 more than the 123.
In S. California, I would think you could eventually find a W115 300D for $3000. For that I would expect a decent driver that is not rusty and has not been butchered, decent paint. For $4500 I wqould expect a really really good interior, working A/C, and decent rubber around the windows and doors. It is cheaper to buy a car that has been taken care of with replacements all of its life than to buy something that has sat parked for 15 years and has low miles. Do the math and figure out what it costs to replace the rubber around the windows (front and back windshields WILL leak if they haven't been replaced in the last 10 - 15 years), what does it cost to fix the A/C (if you care about A/C), what does it cost to paint it if it needs paint... Fixing the car can easily exceed the cost of buying the car so you really can't tell much about a car from the miles and price unless you go through an exhaustive list of what will need to be done and what has already been done.
