1974 230 115 --a few repair questions

Hi all,
I just bought my MB 230 off of ebay. I have burned out dash board lights, and also the clock is not working. Has anyone had any experience replacing the bulbs(its a very tight job) or repairing the clock.
The hood emblem has also been broken off. Is there a place either online or a parts supplier in the Toronto area that could help.
Many thanks in advance....Ted.

Start by twisting all of your fuses in their sockets to ensure they are correctly seated. If you have the aluminum fuses you may consider getting new copper ones.

Check your dash light dimmer for operation. Sometimes they get a bad spot or fail altogether. You can replace or just jumper the device. Of course, you'll have to pull the cluster.

I'm not familiar with 115 clocks, but on the older Kienzles, there are usually two things that could go wrong. There is a soldered trace acting like a fuse that may have melted. Or (and more likely, IMO) the contacts in the clockworks that close to activate the solenoid that winds the spring have corroded. These can be renewed by very lightly passing a fine abrasive paper between the contacts.

The instrument cluster pulls out forward - it's friction fit with a rubber band around it that wedges it into the dash opening. Push from behind or pull from the front and it will eventually come out, then the lamps are easy to replace.

The clocks seldom work. There is a fusable link in the clock that gets fried. You can fix that but you won't know why it fried to begin with. The clocks are not very accurate anyway - my advice is to replace it with the slightly later quartz clock. Also not that easy to find but more reliable.
