VIN decoding?

I have bought a big beautiful puzzle. The chassis of a 1966 300SE convertible and 5 big boxes of parts. its a huge task and it will take some years to finish.
It would be of invaluable help if you could decode the VIN number so that I could get as much info about the car as possible before I start putting the pieces together The VIN number is 112 023 12007471
Hope you can help. BR Kjetil

Please get in touch with the Classic Center in Germany and give then your chassis number. It's not a VIN which came out in 1981. They can provide you with the build card.

You can also visit the forums on The International M-100 Group. The 300SEL 6.3 also has air suspension and there is a lot of information there about it. It's rather complex but once sorted provides an amazing ride.

To help you with the chassis number, the chassis is a W112, the 023 is a 2 door cabrio, the 12 is '1' for left hand drive, '2' for auto trans, the rest is the sequence number.

It's not the 7471st cabrio made but the 7471st 300SE made, interspersed with the sedans.

You have a beautiful car. Please post some pictures.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
