M129 / M130 Interchangable in W108?

I'm the proud co-owner of a very nice 1967 250S sedan that has no engine or transmission. The previous owners were going to put in a non-MB engine and as such did not retain the originals.

The car would have originally had a M129 with a <I don't know which number> automatic transmission (column shift). Since I'll be looking for an engine/trans to install in the car, I'm wondering (almost assuming) that an M130 engine is the same setup. Is this correct? Is M129 / M130 the same installation? I ask because there are more M130 engines available...

On a related note, is an M130 from a W114 Coupe also pretty straight forward to install?

Finally, if people know which auto transmissions are compatible that would help too. I want to minimize fabrication.

My goal is to make a nice driver that is as original as I can do economically. I don't want to put a fortune into this car and it doesn't have to have the exact correct engine.

The M130 engine is a pretty easy drop in. A few things are different on the engines in the "S" series, all of them external. Power steering brackets are a bit different, a few extra block casting bits, transmission mount, etc.

Nothing insurmountable. I have an "S" series engine in my '74 W114.
