1976 MBZ 280 temp gauge issue..

Can anyone relate to this most recent issue with my temp gauge???

I noticed while sitting in the drive thru line that my gauge was reading in the 200 area when it normally sits at about 140 or lower...I did notice that the car has been idling ok but does make a very low "puup puup" sound...kinda like a bubbling sound from the exhaust i suppose.. any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

200 degrees isn't bad - it's still within normal range. You have a circuit that activates the aux fan at 212 degrees. I'm not familiar with what "too hot" is, but I *think* it's 250.

140F is too low. The thermostat opens at around 190F. The temperature needle should be between the 175F and 250F mark.
