Yes, you originally had two wires leading to the positive terminal on the coil. One wire came from the starter solenoid and was a full +12V. It was energized only when the starter cranked supplying direct voltage for an added boost. The second wire was a reduced voltage coming from the ballast resistor. This circuit is powered at the "run" position of the ignition switch.

Hmm, the Hot Spark units you speak of - I have used Pertronix and was about to order a kit tomorrow for my 280S motor. But now I hear of these - what is the difference, how do they compare? These seem a little cheaper!

And Mike, do you have a thread on your conversion to aftermarket FI at all? Was it worth the trouble?
Thanks, Drew in Oz

The "Hot Spark" and the Pertronix are essentially identical. The Pertronix design copyright expired and the HS boys are making copies with a licensing agreement with Pertronix.

I think the HS is about $20 USD cheaper. I went with HS over Pertronx simply because HS are "little guys" trying to make a go of it and they are closer to me.

I have write-ups on my M110, M117 and M115 conversions on other boards.

The M115 write-up is at "Peachparts", the M110 is on "Stroke8" and I forget where the M117's is. It might be at "PP" or over on the Megasquirt board under "Success stories"
