1973 115 rust repair

Heya, new to the forums here. I am trying to salvage my 115. It has extensive rust throughout the floorboards, which is getting dangerously close in the backseat area to some bolted on mounts. I've located panels and am preparing to cut out the floor boards and weld in the replacement sheet-metal. I have no experience welding. My plan is to do the cutting/grinding/clean-up myself and pay a pro to do the welding (unless anyone thinks that it is realistic that I could rent a MIG and fly by the seat of my pants). I was hoping to get some pointers from people with experience doing this repair. At this point, not having actually torn the seats/carpet/soundproofing out, it looks like both sides will need to be removed from front to back and replaced. I don't have access to a lift and will probably be doing the repair with the car on ramps. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Also trying to locate a manual for 115 220D if anyone knows of one for sale.

Are you using straight sheet metal, or do you have replacement floorboards? Ether case isn't too awfully daunting. I had (have?) no welding skills but did the same thing with my 108. I would recommend watching a couple "how to" videos and just rent a rig for a weekend. After the welds are done, grind them down and check for structural integrity.

Good luck!

i made my own floor panels actually. it took me 3 whole days to cut out, clean and weld in the new floors. if the job is done right (as mine was) and the welds are grinded down, you shouldnt be able to tell the panels are homemade.
