Access water pump w123 280E 1978

I have taken out the radiator and need to remove the fan behind.

Does anyone know how to do this. I have popped out the centre
Rivet and need to remove the fan rotar. Is there some trick to
This. I keep adjusting the bolts and the rotor moves with it.

The fan blades itself is loose already so that is not a concern.

This operation is actually easier with the belts etc still attached, because the belts will hold the pulley (or, as you call it, the rotor) in place. Loosen the bolts, then remove the belts, then proceed further.

However, if the belts are off already and the fan is off too, take two ratchets (or wrenches) and use one as a counterbalance. In other words, as you're loosening one bolt, use another wrench on the bolt opposite the one you're loosening and apply tightening force to it. Thus you'll have opposite leverages applied to the pulley, and it won't move.

Also, make sure you use ample Liqui-Wrench or some similar product. If those bolts have never been removed, they're grown in there pretty good.

Exchange of water pump on 280E -123 model, year 82

Christmas time in Australia
All is ready to go, then one day before Chrsitman eve there is a small water-leak. Next day it got bigger. I called the spare-parts, wreckers, mechanics, but they all have gone on holiday until the 6.1.14. I was stuck. I decided to try it myself. After agonising effort – over 3 days- buying all the right necessary tools. I eventually managed to get it done. Just because of a little nut I had to take the whole flywheel out.
Here is what you do.
1. Undo the power-steering pipes from the radiator.

2. losingly up the power-steering belt – you need a 13 spanner
3. Take the radiator out, including the fan shield
4. Undo the fan- bolts. [ When you put the fan back, screw a bolt in a little at he button of the water pump, so you can slip to groove of the fan straight in. This helps you.]

Take a screwdriver to rotate the fan, so you can loosen the bolts easily.

5. You need a big 27 socket and some big leverage to loosen the nut. Clockwise
To prevent the flywheel from rotating, when you try the loosen the big bolt, I wedged a metal bar behind the fly-wheel.

6. Now you need a 6mm Allen key, to loosen up the 6 bolt inside where all the fans pulleys are. Be careful here. Make sure the Allen-key is right in, then apply gentle pressure. Don’t use hard force or you will strip them. Take your time with that.
7. when you got them loose, take a screwdriver, and- with little taps- loosen up the pulley. It falls off.
8. then you take a big wedge to loosen up the big fly wheel. It should come off without much force. {before you take it off, mark it somehow, so it goes on the correct way. When you put it back, put it in the correct position, use a bolt as a guide}
9. Now you can undo the bolts of the water-pump and investigate.
