Perhaps the people at Mercedes-Hanomag Kampeerautoclub Dubbellucht - Home can help you.

What do you have in your 407D now? a 220D or a 240D engine? Perhaps a 300D engine will fit. Also a different gearbox can help with higher speeds (but it will not increase power).

A non-turbo engine usually cannot be fitted with a turbo: the extra pressure and heat destroys the engine. Turbo engines have reenforced components (pistons, drive shafts, valves) and more cooling to deal with this.

Perhaps a 250D Turbo engine will fit, the 300D and 300D Turbo might have too much cylinders (too long).
