Now I am no expert on anything let alone a W114, but I believe that there are differences in the strut towers and/or bracing between early and late cars. I think the later ones had to make a bit more room for the M110 motor, so carefully check out the year car that you have as it may make a difference.

Nice catch.

If I'm going to go through the trouble of swapping an engine it will be a Ford 302. This will clear any Mercedes model but may need clearancing at the lower firewall.

I was wondering if you ever got the conversion done on this vehicle? I know this is an old thread, so I was just curious. I have (2) 250s with chevy engines. (1) is a black on black 1967 model with a chevy 350, and the other is a maroon 1968 model with a 229 v6.

While I know others will disagree, I have had the maroon 250s for over 20 years, and doing the engine swap is the best thing I ever did for the old girl. Same thing for the '67. Lots of parts and upgrades avail, parts are cheaper, a lot more mods that you can do to the engines, and you can chrome them out without spending a small fortune. After all these years of owning these cars, I would NEVER go back to the Mercedes engines. I hated the original 250 engines.... nothing but problems, much harder to get parts (and way more expensive), and they just don't stand up like the chevy engines.

I know, I know, the diehard Mercedes lovers will boo me, but oh well. I love my cars with these engines in them!
