W108 3-wire window regulator to 2-wire car
Hi -- I am attempting to replace the window regulator in a '73 280SE 4.5 W108 with a regulator taken off an older parts car ('68 280S). The problem is that the '73 model car is wired for a two-wire motor and the working regulator has a 3-wire motor. I can get everything to work by connecting up/down wires as usual and the ground wire (from the motor) to the door frame, but it's tricky (it's hard to get everything connected without blowing a fuse). But once the connection is made, there's a slow "tick tock" sound from the motor even when it's not in use, as if it's continuously switching from up to down.
I've seen information here about installing a two-wire regulator/motor in a three-wire car, but not vice-versa. Does anyone have any insights on how to get the wiring to work?
