Here is a pretty interesting 1937 230 sedan project; you won't win any drag races with a 'comparable American car, like a 37 Packard 120 for example, but a cool car for the right person and, like the larger 320, a CCCA Full Classic:

1937 Used Mercedes-Benz 230B Sedan at Gullwing Motor Cars Inc. Serving Astoria, NY, IID 9908711

Dutchman, here is the thread I mentioned to you from AACA forum, I posted once here a year or so ago, but will add link again as those following this thread may be interested. The latest post depicts the car Dragone recently unearthed and sold - a beauty that looks like it was restored at least 40 years ago, 5 speed which I understand allows for 65 MPH - would be a great car to actually drive which you NEVER see prewar MB guys doing stateside unless it is trailer to showfield..

THE OTHER LINK IS VERY USEFULL, IT HAS A LOT OF VALUABLE INFO IN IT.

Keep us posted, Pieter. The car has some interesting features - and supposedly no rust. Dual side mounts and full sunroof are cool. I think these must have thrived in Europe where the roads (I believe anyway) were not as wide open as many of ours were by then - in the US their was a big emphasis on sustained higher speeds by the late 30s and I see this as more of a back roads car. That said, it must perform as well as a potwar 170 and you do see them on the road here once in a rare while.

WE HAD A LOOK AT IT, BUT AT THE PRICE IT IS OFFERED AT, AND THE COST FOR RESTORING WOULD MAKE THE CAR TOO EXPENSIVE, COMPARED TO A RESTORED VALUE.

BUT WE WERE PLANNING NEXT MONTH TO BRING GULLWING A VISIT ANYWAYS, SO MAYBE WE CAN MAKE A DEAL WITH THEM.

Yes, I completely agree on the car at Gullwing. When it is restored, nothing short of a full restoration will make sense, yet you cannot do it and end up ahead of the game. The only time anything less than a full restoration seems to make sense with this type of car is if it is found in excellent original or very old restored condition but to do it halfway now would be a disservice to the car.

Happy hunting, Pieter. Hope to hear more from you here or if you join the discussion over on AACA. It is hard to find a lot of good forum type dialogue on prewar MB stateside, but a lot of those cars did find their way here over the years...

Pieter you may want to have a look at this. A project but substantially cheaper than the Dragone car in the more desirable 500 series. The Cab "C" still a pretty nice looking car and a big move up in terms of mechanics!
