w107(SLC280- 1981) auto climate control amplifier location

Good morning every one

I am trying to recover my auto climate control and all the help is must welcomed. There are very few cars in Portugal with auto climate, so is difficult to get someone here that knows the subject. My question are:

1º question - In the SLC (1981) where is the climate control amplifier?
2º question- (for the same car) Where is location of the Exterior Temperature Sensor (if any) ?
3º question- How can I check if climate control amplifier is working properly before order a new one?
Many thanks
Sérgio

If it's an '81, then it has ACC II and thus the answers are as follows:

1. Nowhere, only cars with ACC I servo-based system had those.

2. By the front bumper, if I remember right, but I've never heard of it failing, so I doubt it's causing your issues.

3. See above.

Now, what is your system not doing exactly?

In first place many thanks for your reply.

The bad things:
First we change the ventilator (blower motor) and ventilation began, but no heat.

We notice that auxiliary pump was burned (in lock position),... and it was changed. Still no heat.

Then we verify that the control unit servo also didn't work. (no noise)

We remove it and with surprise there where no plastic cracks.

So we decide to open it, ... and it was with no signs of water on the upper parts or corrosion.

We are now mounting it again and next we will try to bypass the vacuum connections to discover if the problem is with the loss of vacuum.

The following problem was the amplifier and its location as we thought that we had to change it too (that is solved with your help).

The "good" things:

The temperature wheel is working fine as we measure it resistance and it works. We think that blower switches are also good, as the DEF mode works.

Any help will be most welcomed.
Best regards
Sergio

Sounds like your car is a 1980, not 81, if it has a servo. The amplifier is behind the glovebox, it's a little black box. One good way to test is to smell it, they tend to smell burnt.

On a side note, have you established that the aux pump is getting power?

Thanks.
Good question.

In fact we don't have power at the auxiliary pump.
What should we check ?

Firstly, the fuse.

Secondly, the amplifier.

Thanks, again.

Is was the amplifier ( 3 or 4 components burned).
I am waiting for a new one next Monday, to test the system.

The AC is still not working, as the compressor also need to be changed.

Can I test only the Control Unit in the heating mode ? or shall I wait until de AC is operational ?

Yes, you can, once the amplifier gets there.
