Question about dual carbs?

Hello All,
I am in the process of searching for a car to use as a future daily driver. As luck would have it I stumbled across a 72' 250 two miles from my house this morning. Yes, I am fully aware of what daily driver means for a car 40 years old and like most, I have a back up. I am a sucker for nice old things and have become quite aquainted with the querks of owning them over the years. What I like about this car is that it is almost rust free and very complete. The guy had been driving it up until a few years ago and it has been sitting. Starts right up, good oil pressure, sounds good...only problem is that is wants to stall at idle and back fire through the carbs as you apply the accelerator. Once you get past that point, it runs at higher rpms fine. I am pretty certain that the issue is carburation, but what is worst case scenerio on the carb set up? I assume they are Zeniths. What is a good parts source for rebuild kits? Are there other option? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You can get rebuild kits. Be aware that the body sections can warp due to heat. Alternatives are available but conversion to a throttle body fuel injection system would work well. Megasquirt is one example.

One man converted a 4 cyl to Megasquirt. Do a search for megasquirt here and

Electronic ignition, for example wasted spark from a Ford EDIS system from a V6 Ford, such as a Taurus, is a good start.

As for the car, check the basics, timing, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, wires etc. It may be something simple.

EFI conversion later.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
