Identifying the year?...

Good Morning all,

I just received my grandmother's early 60's 300SE and am trying to identify the year so I can order parts to get it back on the road.

Chassis # is 112.014-12-003544 which as far as I have been able to research tells me the car is a 300SE, SEDAN, LHD MADE IN GERMANY WITH AUTO TRANS, & WAS THE 3544TH 300SE EVER BUILT. At least that is what I am interpreting. I "think" the car is a 1961, purchased in Germany either late in 1962 or very early 1963 then shipped to the US when my grandfather was re-stationed here. I can't depend on the title/registration because we are 99% sure my grandfather lied when he registered it. I cannot find anywhere online that directs me to another place on the vehicle.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

On the body tag with the paint color code is the following number:

A112.014-10-00261

Is this possibly a date code?

The 300SE came out in 1961, Production figures, and also the coupes and convertibles.

Check The Mercedes Heckflosse (or Fintail) Homepage for more information, click on 'history', then the 4 door models. The chassis numbering numbering scheme mixed the sedans and 2 door models.

The M-100 group had more information on the air suspension. Chris Johnson on the site has many 300SE's and had a lot of information.

The International M-100 Group.

Please post some pictures of the car.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

You could pull the horn pad off and check if a date is stamped in the metal underneath. I know 108's have this. But the only way to be sure is to contactMB and get the cars birth certificate (data card). Should be a post on here somewhere about how to do it. I know the Classic Centre in Irvine can do it.

Thanx for the links! I have a ton of research to do before I even attempt a wrench on this. I will go through Classic Centre once I have the title in my name & get the data card.

I'll post some pictures this weekend.
