The engine is back form the shop "Rectificadora" and is being reasamble.

I can't wait to take it for a test ride.

It's alive!

The engine started. I was not getting fuel when cold, the thermal switch is not working and we have a short in the alternator.
I decided to leave the car in Mexico for a couple of weeks for the mechanics to test it and to do some extra work.
We are going to paint the wheels, retrofit the lights with HID and install seat belts.

Next to my car is an Alfa Romeo being restored, here are some pictures.

Saludos desde Mexico.

Mercedes Restorations in Mexico

Hi everyone,

I have to defend a bit the quality of mexican restorations. I am german, yet being in Mexico now for 10 years. I always worked in the automotive industry and had a fable for Mercedes classic cars, like the fintail coupes and convertibles and the Pagodas. After several disappointments, I decided to open up my own shop (in Guadalajara Mexico) to restore my own Mercedes classics to my own (I have to say a little bit exagerated) perfectionist expectations. And this is what I am still doing with my people here (besides body work, also engine restorations and interiors), with a lot of success and by now many satisfied customers in the US and in Germany.
I think the key is to guide them well and show them how to do it right, with the right tools, orderliness and cleanliness etc.
If anyone has more questions about doing restorations in Mexico, let me know and I will be glad to help or comment.

Carsten

Israel Bistrer is a newcomer, extremely dedicated and meticulous his shop looks like an OR not your typical restorer shop (I was suspicious, it was too tidy). But a good friend who is restoring an Alfa Giuletta there, insisted. He is also managing my restoration, I live in the US and my car is at Israel shop in Mexico City.

Carsten, I just want to leave a couple of things clear.

1st. I'm not attacking anyone.
2nd. I'm not restoring this car, I'm only fixing it.
3rd. A message from Israel, the mexican shop owner. He agrees with you, with guidance, the right tools, orderliness and cleanliness both germans working for him do things right too.

Hi San Arthur,

sorry if I sounded like feeling being attacked, not at all, sorry for that misunderstanding. Please let me know if I can help in any kind.

Take care, Carsten

Hi MADMANMERC,

sorry for the late response. I have to check how the follow-up feature in this forum works, because so far I don`t get notified.

In the US, there is to my knowledge only AdsitCo from which I had some parts from years ago and they weren`t that bad (adjustments had to be made though).

In Germany (as a german I have to promote that of course ) there are a lot of suppliers (although also here, sometimes adjustments are requiered).
Here are some links for your interest (not only germans):
1. Reparaturbleche fr /8er Modelle W114 und W115
2. Autoservice Glauner : Mercedes-Reparaturbleche W114
3. Klokkerholm (this one is not german )
4. 1960-1975 W114 & W115
5. produktseite Karosserieteile

Hope this helps.
Have a good day, Carsten
