Engine rebuild

After many years without use, the engine and gearbox deloped leaks everywhere. I decided to fix the leaks and purchased new set of gaskets, for both.
The engine was check first for compression and pressure leaks and was opened next.
We found, the mechanic did, three pistons are passing oil, and the cylinders developed an edge, valves are not setting properly and main bearings are worn.

So we decided to overhaul the engine.
I’ll send more pictures next week.

Yes, it would be too expensive to cradle the engine back to the US.

Because of the heavy traffic is common to overhaul engines in the city. In a normal day I used to spend 5 to 6 hours sitting in my car. No wonder why the radio stations are so good!

I'm just waiting for the final numbers to quote the parts in the US and in Mexico. My wife is visiting in two weeks and will take the parts in case there are to expensive over there.

There are several engine shops in Mexico City, called "Rectificadoras". I'll try to get pictures from my engine at the shop.

Thanks for asking.

More Pictures

It was extremely difficult to find the rod bearings (repair size i), I had to order them from Germany thru World Impex.

All gaskets in the gear box will be replaced. Front suspension in back.

Inlet before being cleaned.

Clean parts awaiting for the engine.

I agree! Get all the rust cut out and go in with fresh metal. Undercoat the heck out of it when you are done!

All the parts are here!!!

Thanks to AutohausAZ and World Impex for on-time delivery!
My wife is leaving the day after tomorrow to Mexico City with all the engine parts.
The engine should be ready by the end of next week and the car by Xmas.

I delivered the car the first week of August. I lost three months in purchasing, delivery and getting the parts to Mexico City.

I obviously trust Israel Bistrer, who is the owner of the shop.
I met him thru a very good friend of mine who is restoring an Alfa Romeo in the same shop. He is half retired and visits the shop every morning and he is managing my repairs.
