1966 Benz 250SE Gas Tank

Hi,

I have a 1966 250SE fuel Injection. This particular model is been shipped to US originally from Europe. Because the car was parked most of it's life, the gas tank has a lot of rust. We contaminate the in-line fule filters very quick. We took the tank off and tried to water jet spray it. It helped but did not fully eliminate the particles in the gas tank. Most appreciative if any ideas how to restore my gas tank, or where to send it to. MBENZ dealer can get me a new tank but it's very expensive. Thanks everyone.

Did you just flush it or did you use a tank repair/ sealer kit, like this
FUEL TANK REPAIR KIT-POR-15 Inc.

just make sure you follow the direction exactly
also replace the fuel hose to the filter with new ones and the filter in the tank( the big screw in the bottom of the tank)
good luck

Take it to a radiator shop and have them boil the whole thing, and then re-seal it. My 108, after being stored while I'm on deployment, developed water in the tank and subsequently rusted the fuel pump as well. If you pull the tank, ensure the pump works without incident. I'd replace the fuel filter as well...

thanks a lot guys. Originally I took the tank off and only jet sprayed it with water to get all the junk out. I'll go ahead and take it out and see what the Radioator shop can do. Thanks

The reason why I asked where you're located was that if there is much of a hot-rod movement in your area, you might consider having a hotrod shop restore your tank, because that's a fairly common issue on those types of cars.

I had a radiator shop do mine. It's worth it. Then install an in line filter between the tank and fuel pump. If they did a good job it should stay clean.

The FI models have a 'flower pot' that keeps the fuel in the pot and drains through the screen. The return line from the engine goes into the pot to keep it full. It's very effective. The fuel pump, should have an input screen, an output check valve and the main fuel filter on the engine mount. Make sure the filter housing is clean and has a new filter.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
