I need tips installing distributor when removed rotorposition on 280SEL 4,5 V8 1972
I have problems finding TDC (top-dead-centre) on 1. sylinder. I have engaged a remote controll between the relay on starter and + on battery. Removed 1. spark plug and feelt the compression generated with the thoumb. But its a bit difficult, even if I only touches the controll a short while, the wheel with the marks on removes 3-4 inches. So it maybe removes a bit after I have felt the cpmpression. I have found out when the car ran that the 0 degree mark on the crankshaft pulley is far away from the pointer when i put a timing light on 1.spark plug, so it must have been installed wrong. Is it much job to fix this?
The other method is pulling engine over over by a wrench with your arms. But I cant see the screw to put the cub key on. Does something have to be removed before doing this? It is very small space between the fan blades to put a cup key in to the screw on the crankshaft.
I hope someone see whats my problem.
