Unknown alternator part?

This part is connected to/ coming out of the wire harness to the alternator. It has a blue wire with a white stripe connected to it.

Anyone have an idea what this heat sink like thing is, I found it unconnected and just floating around?

Could it possibly be related to my constant red battery light?

thanks

It would be a great help if we knew the year and model of your car. Please update your profile or add some text and a few more pics.

If the red alternator light is always on, the alternator is not charging and the car is running on the battery.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
