Battery size for w115 200D

I need to replace the battery of my w115 200D. Some people have told me that I should put in a DIN88 size battery as that size has the extra juice to turn the heavier diesel engine. What is installed right now is a 3SM size battery. I don't know how that size translates internationally but here in the Philippines that is what is usually used in the older (10 yrs+) 2.0 liter and over Japanese models. Is there a recommended size/type for MB diesels? By the way, my W124 diesel has a DIN66. Thanks in advance.

Originally I think the W115-200D was fitted with a 66 Ah battery, later it was 88 Ah. 88Ah will be fine, but if the temperature is always high (above 10 degrees Celcius/ 50 Fahrenheit) you could have a lower capacity battery too. The 88 Ah is a requirement for climates which have low temperatures, because at low temperatures battery capacity drops.

Diesel engines require a lot of current to start: pre-glowing and turning over a heavy and high-compression engine. That is why there is a large battery in a diesel engine compared to a petrol/gas engine.

Will probably try a DIN66 then instead of the much larger DIN88. Temperatures here average around 26 to 29C. Thanks for the help!
