it is DANGEROUS to assume all tints have full UV protection
Here in the UK and several other markets Sunglasses have Full UV protection By Law, however there are NO LAWS governing window films and dyes as they are considered cosmetic and not safety or medical requirements.
A number of films sold in the european market have some UV protection but by no means full UVA and UVB.
Some far eastern films and dyes have been found to offer NO protection at all....... they are just darkened to visible light.
CHECK THE PRODUCT FIRST its documentation / packaging should say but sometimes you have to contact the manufacturer or importer, the person selling it should be knowledgeable and honest about the product BUT we have all met a few "spivs" and "wide boys" at times, who would say anything to get your money.
As you say, mid tint green or even light tint green is probably the most in keeping with older vehicles, mid to dark tints tend to be very modern and "bling" as opposed to "taste"
