1972 280SEL 4,5 1972. Need new motor Wiring Harness and new throttle position sensor

My motor wiring harness have been spliced in. Where can I buy new to my car? The diagnosis of my car also said that the throttle position sensor didnt respond. So my mechanic said that I have to renew it.

Wiring harnesses MIGHT be available from the classic center, but I tried a few years ago and came up with nothing. You might have to have it built by a custom shop.

Call the bullshit flag on the TPS - mine was "bad" also, but I opened it up and cleaned the thing out with isopropol alcohol (contact cleaner) and a stff brush. The innards are nothing more than coiled wire - it's a potentiometer.

Go to the online resources portion of the forum. There are a bunch of articles posted about our fuel systems, including how to diagnose your own problems.

Thanks. I have opened the TPS and cleaned before, but I will do agian with oxide clean. I hear the 20 clicks and no clicks when declerate. So guess the TPS is in order. When I am driving, specially holding a steady speed about (lets say) 45-50 Miles/hour, then I notice very small jerk driving. This is a bit irritating since you want it to run without it.

Hmmmm. I had the same jerking issue with mine. I found that my timing was off. First clue was when I turned on the AC, and the jerking would go away (turning on the AC advances the timing by 5 degrees).

Years later, chasing down a different issue, the mechanic I had wanted to rebuild or replace the guts of my distributor, including springs and counterweights. I never gave credence to the notion that stuff like that would go bad, but my car's never run so smoothly as it did after that.

Try advancing your timing by 5 degrees and see what happens.
