Getting to window crank mechanism for repair in W114
Hi, I lost the ability to operate the passenger front window, which had been getting tough to use, when I heard a "pop!" and the crank handle spun freely through its normal range with no movement from the glass.
I got the interior panel off and, after peeling back that plastic piece, can tell for sure that a kind of rivet or bolt piece that connect the crank to the glass, between two connecting metal parts, has sheared and fallen out. I have the busted piece that fell to the inside of the door.
Problem is, I am doing this by feel, not sight, so it seems doubtful I could get that pin replaced by reaching up in there.
When I look for a way to remove the interior metal panel, it doesn't even look possible. But it seems like such a thing shouldn't be too complicated since windows break and have to get replaced frequently. So I feel pretty dumb and would love some tips from those who have dealt with window issues on these manual crank models.
