Does this look like a keeper? '75 240d

1975 Mercedes Diesel 61K *Creampuff*

Newbie here. Talked to this dealer. They assured me no bondo and clean underbody. Genuine 61k, which they said they can verify with title. No, repeat, no service records from prior owner, a Navy JAG officer, who was in and out of the area, hence the low mileage.

They are fine with me taking it to a local mechanic for ppi. If it really is 61k and rust free, it strikes me as worth the 5k, but I thought I'd check with you wiser heads and bring one the checklists I found on the site.
Esp. because it's a five-hour trip for me.

Thanks, peepers. I did look over BBB, too. Their grade is A. I guess you still have to be wary of a car with no service records. But man! If it really is 61k, it has a LOT of life left, notwithstanding the 36 years.

I'm always very skeptical when someone says their classic car has low original miles. There's no way for the DMV to verify milage on a car of that age, much less a dealership with no experience with the car.

seema to me that all vintage benzs out there for sale all have under 100k. I guess its because the odometer reads up to 99999k. for all you know the car could have half a million k. mine said 63000k and the owner assured me it was original. but my mec said its more likely like 363000k. be aware

The condition of the car will tell you if the mileage is correct. MBTex and Wool carpets wear hard so if they are worn out, then it's got more miles then suggested.

With best regards

Looking at the drivers seat it might have more mileage than posted. Normally the insides of the seat crumbles from old age..But could be just the insides...
Check the steering wheel & shifter wear. You can tell how much they are used. Unless it had a steering wheel cover.
Take some pics & post it for us.
Look at the undersides of the car too.
Like Allabassi said check the carpets too.
Good luck & get a second person to look at it.

Just looking at the seat I can tell the car has at least 100k more than advertised. That said a rust free W115 is very rare.
