Where is the VIN on a 1977?

LSS I bought this '85 titled 300D wagon that is missing the VIN plate in the a-pillar. It does have the riveted plate in the door frame that matches the title. It also has a sticker that says the car meets 1977 emissions standards. I'm thinking a previous owner wrecked the '85 and used a '77 donor body. Is that possible? Should a '77 have the vin plate in the a-pillar? Is the vin engraved in the body under the hood somewhere too I can check?

On the firewall top dead center, the VIN is stamped in.

Thanks I'll check later today. That's for either 1977 or 1985 right?

FYI the 300D wagon was not produced until 1979. Non-turbo the first 2 years.

OK I found the numbers in the firewall and they match the door plate so it is an '85. Somebody must have put on a 1977 emissions decal to get around inspections.
