Question Weird power steering reservoir leak n 76' 240d

Hey folks,

My power steering reservoir is leaking terribly from under the wing nut that holds the cap on. Anyone have any experience with this issue? I placed a rubber washer with a metal washer on top under the wing nut and clamped it down. This slowed it down, but it's not resolved the problem.

Any info on this issue is appreciated!

Make sure filter is installed correctly. Is fluid clear? Run it with cap off. There should be very little turbulence.

Usually, There's air caught in the power steering system. Does your power steering work correctly?
If not it is air causing the fluid to spray and gurgle in the reservoir, the system needs bled via a bleeder on the steering gear.

The air got into the system some how and that should be investigated as well.

Stop blaming the cap before you break it, it doesn't need to be tight just snug, the cap serves as more of a splash guard for bumps than anything else.
