Synthetics aren't bad for older cars, per se, they're just so thin that a car with older/worn seals will allow the oil to leak by. I tried synthetic on my 108, with an engine with verified good compression and leakdown, but the stuff pooled on the driveway big time
Look for the oil (brand name I forget) made for cars with more than 100,000 miles - they work just as good as the synthetic and won't leak by.
