ATF for w115 manual tranny

I've been told that the ideal transmission fluid for MB manual transmissions, even older models like pontons and finnies, is ATF. Is this information correct? My w115 200d is due for an oil change and I would like to change all other fluids as well. Will appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Yes manual transmissions require ATF. Red Line manufactures a ATF sutable for manual transmissions that require ATF. This is what I use in mine:

Red Line Synthetic Oil - Automatic Transmission Fluids - D4 ATF

Sometimes a slightly heavier manual gear box oil is used for transmissions that are on the way out, but ATF works fine in most cases.

Thanks for the inputs! Does the same hold true for newer MBs with manual transmissions like the w124 and w210?

ATF is still prescribed for the W124 (at least the early ones), the W210 probably takes special manual gear box oil, it will be in the WIS.
