What oil do i use for MB 220SEb (W111).

Can some good fellow tell me what kind of oils uses my Mercedes 220SEb?
Transmision, engine, gearbox, brakes, steering,etc.
For the engine, i have been told that it is best a semisyntetic 20w50.
This engine goes at 4000rpm at 120kph, so in summer gets quite hot. Does oil type help to keep it cooler?. If it does, what type?.
Thank you.

These classic Benz engines seem to run best on conventional (or semi-synthetic) oils in 20W-50 that are high in ZDDP content. Personally, I've had great experiences with Kendall GT-1 and Brad Penn PG-1 oils. If the engine is really burning a ton of oil, I'll add some Lucas HD Oil Stabilizer (about 15-20% by volume).

Having said that, lots of guys swear by diesel formulations for these older engines. Shell Rotella T6 5W-40, Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40, and Chevron Delo 400 Multigrade 15W-40 are all very popular with classic Benz owners. At least one independent Mercedes repair shop I know uses Mobil Delvac almost exclusively.

Sorry to steal the tread...have a W114 and also thinking about what motor oil to use. Previous poster recommended diesel engine oil...is that a good choice for the M130 engine? Thanks for any info.

I think that the injection pump uses the same oil as the engine.
Thank you Emre-k for your info. I have bought 20w50 and an oil additive for my W111. I hope that with this one stops consuming oil and keeps the temperatura lower in the summer.
In an specialised MB classic garage they told me that in extreme oil consuming cases they have used Shell 10w60. With this oil they avoided opening the engine of an 1960´s MB they had for restoration. It is a quite expensive oil.

If oil consumption is an issue, you may want to check valve seals, piston rings and also valvecover & pan gaskets.

If cooling is an issue, check and rebuild or replace the radiator. Check ignition timing. Check your fan and fan clutch.

There are also some cooling additives (e.g. Wetter Wett) which can give you a small edge.
