Can someone please measure 108 dipstick for me?
I purchased my 1967 300SEL last summer and have been working on some puzzling changes that were made. The car was restored in 1987 and they swapped the original engine for a 1972 280SE straight six. I am told it was bored out to be 3 liter. They also converted it to a 4-speed manual.
One concern came up when checking the oil. The past owner told me he put 7 quarts in for the oil change. The 280SE service manual states 5.5 liter capacity (5.8 quarts). The dipstick shows the car is overfilled and it dripped oil from somewhere last summer/fall the few times I drove it.
Since the car ended up having the wrong master and slave clutch cylinders, and had a hex nut in place of a bleeder on one of the brake calipers, I am I suspect of the dipstick that is in the car as well. It has 230/250/67 stamped on it, though it is a 280 engine from 1972. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct dipstick, or at least the correct length and markings for this car.
The length from the collar to the end is 11.75 inches or 30 cm. The distance from the end to the low mark is 9/16ths of an inch or 1.5 cm. the distance from min to max is 1 5/16 inches or 3.3 cm.
My first project will be to change the oil and put the right amount in. Knowing I have the right dipstick will help!
Thanks for your assistance.
