1973 450SL

Hey everyone,

I just joined, we have a 1973 450SL that my grandfather owned and since he passed away in 2001, the car has not been driven, and has been sitting in the garage. Recently we took the car to a local person who specializes in restoring old cars, we're not looking to have it in pristine condition, just so that it looks decent and will run well. One of the main issues he discovered was that the wiring harness would have to be replaced, as it appeared it had been partially eaten by rats. He went on to say he was unable to find any replacements anywhere, and the only option would be to have another built by a company in Germany, and that it would cost $7500??!! I find it hard to believe because from what I've seen it is not a particularly rare car, and there must be some in scapyards, so I guess I should maybe check the local ones? Also I've heard there are companies that will basically build a specific wiring harness for a much lower price, but can't find any. I figured someone on here might know what to do or have a reccomendation? Thanks.
