1970 300 SEL Transmission Concern

Hello again, been away for a while but need direction with automatic transmission concern. 1970 300 SEL about 80,000 original miles. I try to put a few miles on the old girl every week or so. Yesterday as we were turning left onto a main road, there was a distinct pop or clunk and all the forward speeds were lost. Reverse is good and strong, but car will only 'creep' in all forward gears. If there is a slight incline there is not enough power to move. My question is what is there that is common to all forward gears, but not reverse? The fluid is still pink and no odor at all. Thanks for reading this and for any advise in advance, Steve

You didn't mention column or floor shift. If it's a column shift, you might look at the socket on the front end of the trans shifter rod. The plastic insert may have deteriorated and broken.

In any event, you need to inspect the linkage from the underside. Please take some clear pictures to aid the diagnosis and post them.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
