w108 (108.019)Distributor

I own a 1970 280 SEL 2.8 (108.019) and just noticed that I do not have the original Bosch 0231116061. I have a Bosch 0231116051 with Crane Ignition. My understanding is that 061 was discontinued. That might explain the 051, however, I looked up the 051 and it works with the following cars:

1968-69 6cyl (280SE, SL, 300SEL) 0231116051 Bosch

Note my 70 280sel not on the list.

Anyone know if both the 051 and 061 are compatible. I know the 051 is retard and not advance.

Do your numbers match? Perhaps your car had an engine swap in the past ...

I knew the original owner, no engine swap. Original owner did get her car serviced by a mechanic who did not care about detail. Jobs performed were ok. I know for sure he knew nothing on how to properly tune mechanical fuel injection. His solution was to increase play around with the air/fuel mix screw.

From what I understand, the 061 has a greater degree of retard. Can anyone confirm this?
