HELP-Home needed for 1967 230

I have to part with my 1967 230 M180. I do not have the time or the resources to keep her. This car has been in my family since new and was my first car. I have everything for this car (all manuals and books, plates, sales and service records, shop manuals-printed not CD's, etc.) This car has a larger front sway bar and springs from Mercedes (added by me in the early '80's), and heavy duty shocks from Bilstein. The motor has larger pistons and valves, recent head work (new guides and seats). Interior is in good condition except the headliner and carpets and the exterior is fair. Mechanically she has some issues but was my daily driver until a couple of years ago when water entered the combustion chamber. Any offer considered or the wife says I have to donate it, call me and leave a message at 858-581-9173.

Carlton

It's a shame your first post is having to part with your car. Given your history with your 230, that has to be hard. I have a '66 230 and if you weren't on the other side of the country I would consider purchasing yours as a backup.

I'm curious as to the diagnosis of water in the combustion chamber. I'm getting some white smoke and a little "milkshake" in the valve cover vent. I figure the head gasket has failed. My research tells me that one problem with the m180 is the thin metal between the cylinder bores that leaves little surface for the head gasket to seal. Especially if they have been re-bored.

What were your symptoms and have you considered a new head gasket?

Hey Carpenterman,

White smoke is usually an indication of water getting into the cylinder. I have a new head gasket set for this car that did not get used in this job. I had the head R&R'd a couple of years ago, similar problem turned out to be a crack that was repaired. It's probably something similar, but it could be just about anything. I am in San Diego and this has been a California car. I just don't have the time or resources right now to deal with her and would like to find someone who can. I'll work on getting some pics up, but that may take a few days.

Pictures are finally up. They are located in my profile gallery.

I am going to have to donate her if she is not wanted. I would rather give her to someone who will respect her.

Thanks

Dear Fellow Benz fans,

I'm getting HEAVY pressure to part with my car. I am doing what I can to get her a good home and not just donate her to end up wherever. I may only have a few weeks left, so any help or contacts would be greatly appreciated. I would be a permanant resource of information about this car. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Thanks
