W109 300SEL with a slow leaking tranny

I am thinking about buying a 72' 300SEL 4.5. The seller told me that the tranny leaks fluids slowly. I have not seen the car yet so that is all the info I have. So I have a question for the experienced w109 owners: is it costly to fix a tranny leak for this type of car?

Thanks in advance.

A complete tranny rebuild cost me about $2k, back in '05. If it's something as simple as a pan gasket, you can do the job yourself and not pay much. I wouldn't be able to offer info on leaky torque converters or such though ...

Send me a private message, A buddy of mine is a tranmission specialist at a Ford dealer here in DFW. He's an MB guy however and has rebuilt the 722.0 that is in your car for his own 450SEL and for another customer with a 450SL. He has also done the 4 speed's for his 560SEL and other cars. He knows them well and will do it as a side job thus saving you money.

With best regards

Al
