Thanks!

I haven't really started looking yet since we're just now getting to the end with the insurance but I'm certainly open to buying a car rather than just the rear half. My husband is a Porsche enthusiast (he had a 1974 914 before it burned in a fire, now has an 83 SC) and he and his Porsche club buddies are looking forward to helping me disassemble an SL Anyway, please keep an eye out and keep me in mind if you hear of a rear end (with or without front end!) that is available for a good deal.

all the best,
Deidre

Hi,

I am in a similar situation rebuilding a 1979 450SL that was totalled in a wreck. The fellow that I bought the car from was in a parking lot, and had the front end wiped out by a delivery truck. His insurance totalled the car, then sold it to him for $1000. He purchased quite a few parts, then became discouraged by the cost of rebuilding -eventually selling the car to me for $2000. After paying way too much for parts directly from MB, he began purchasing from performanceproducts4benz.com I don't have any experience with them yet, but perhaps other 107 owners can provide their experience with them. I can say I have been very discouraged with my dealings with Ebay vendors - I would be careful of misrepresented items (especially used body parts) on Ebay. Also - if you do buy anything online - check out the ratings (Better Business Bureau etc., ebay feedback etc.) of these companies. I have been burnt one time too many times by some of these online rip off's. Not trying to discourage - just a few steps ahead of where you are and able to look back!!! Mark H
