High Risk

I try it again. 18-20 looks cool but they are very risky on the front suspensions. I was for several year type referent of the german MB-Club. We had several breakdowns with larger wheels because the front axle is not construced to support this type of wheels. Espacialy the W108-109 before 1971 without support reinforcement on the front triangles. Keep care, don't go over 16;

I'm also from SoCal, and most of the people who put giant wheels do it for the attention. This car was not designed to be donked, it is a classic car with lines that don't accomodate large wheels. It's like putting a wing on a new S Class or tinting up a 1930s SS roadster. Or how about a new frame on the Mona Lisa?

It just doesn't go together, aesthetically nor mechanically.

your money your car your way.

if you wanna do it, do it. I think if you were planning on a green glitter paint job there should be cause for concern as that is hard to change if you ever sell it. a set of slightly bigger MB wheels aint gonna change the world and can easily be swapped back. just do it

pls post pics of this thing so I can see the drop better. cheers

?

Those wheels look like crap! And you want bigger ones? It's kinda' like sticking a Mercedes star on the hood of a '78 Chevy Nova (out of place, to put it politely!). C'mon, man, don't do it; put the car back in the shape it was in when manufactured.

How much did you cut them by?

Any comments on how the car rides/behaves since cutting?

My local mechanic used to lower these through the 70's by cutting and swears by it

I've seen a few bagged w108's on the net, Dorbritz designs just bagged one recently

i did 3 coils in the front and 2 in the back.. as far as the ride its great. no that much of a difference in ride, steering feels good. i dont drive the car very fast but for the past two weeks ive been driving it every day. I got the car on the 9th of october and lowered it at a local shop that did it right (considering that the coils being cut). they un-installed and reinstalled the coils till they got the height i wanted. its now settled and looks a bit lower but still rides good. its not gonna be as good as stock but you always have your limitations with lowered cars. it does camber but it doesnt bother me much. if you have any more questions im more than glad to help. Ive been looking for help on the web but couldnt find anything on the subject
