1970 300 sel with 6.3 engine

Ran across this today on Reno CL
I talked to a"friend who is the contact point he has very little info told me that the car was started a couple of years ago apparently a one owner and there is a spare car that comes with it
he told me the guy thinks he can get 5k but he says he told him it was worth much less but the old is not hurting for money and he might post it on e bay
so I did want to haggle with someones preception of what his benz is worth in a non running condition
However I thought maybe someone here might be interested
I got gunshy because a 6.3 is super expensive to rebuild and parts are hard to come by ,at least for me on my last one ,so unless he comes down to a reasonable figure for me I am passing , but I figured maybe someone here might want this

I think that the owner is more informed then you give him credit for. It's a rust free 6.3. The engine alone will be worth $2500 to someone who is restoring a 6.3 in worse condition.

With best regards

I just love these W108/109 cars. I have begun my search for a nice 6.3 and will take my time shopping, I took four years to find my current 1972 280 sel/4.5. Pricing on 1969-72 6.3's is bizarre, $5k to $150k depending on condition and history. I am hoping that 25-30k will get a good one.

I agree that that the engine is worth what you say it is , however you must be willing to part it out and once the engine is out the rest of the 300 sel parts may leave you in a break even position in this economy. even a year ago the pricing of all benz's was much higher then it is now Last month a restored 70 4.2 300sel was sold on e bay for 5k and it was in beautiful condition I actually felt sorry for the seller ,but that the way it is today in this market. when you can buy great running in good condition cars for this price why pay for one that hasa not been running and exposed to the elements, But its all about ones perception of their vehicle. While I love my benzs I know that they will never be worth what I view their value at unless the market changes and I do not see that happening in the near future. I posted this as a opportunity for others that may have a different mindset then myself on pricing and worth. Market pricing depends on the buyers interest and desire to spend money on restoring I have seen the same car in running condition and restored go for as much as 50k in previous years, so there might be a buyer out there. my post was simply to put the car out there.

The ad is wrong, the car doesn't run: it's been sitting for years. God knows the state of the engine after having sat for so long with (probably) all the fluids in it.
