the classic window issue?
well ive done a bit of searching and i dont think i have found anything quite like my problem on the forum so here I go.
the driver side window on my 1976 mercedes 300D wont go up all the way. what it does do is go down like a champ, then when going up at about the 3/4 of the way up position it just kind of bounces there almost like it somehow prematurely got to the end of its reach on the window inside so it just keeps flicking over and over at that 3/4 up position.
at that point the window seems free of internal hold and you can squeeze both sides of the window and pull it up easily to its full closed position, as soon as you let go however it slips back down to that 3/4 up position.
i have tried to get the door pannel off (everything went well but got held up on the handle and i didn't feel confident enough to put anymore force into it looking for the clips i've heard about) and got far enough to see the mechanism inside with both the window all the way down and as far up as i can get it. it was on the felt track and the sliding arms and clip that holds the bottom of the widow seemed in good form. what i did see was in the dark and distance neer what i can asume to be motor. it was a posible gap or gear toutching area that looked as though it had metal shavings or grindings that had that telltale sign of being affected by a megnet.
does this sound familiar to anyone? im unsure of part names but i worry the arm that interfaces the motor gear is stripped high enough that it just gets to its stripped point and then bounces there.
if anyone has any ideas that would be great! i've had a repair shop quote me $120 for labor and an unknown part price for what they felt was a window regulator issue, im not sure that its electrical at all.
